Responding to confirmation that plans to establish a City Hall-owned housing developer will be included in Sadiq Khan’s manifesto, to be published later today, Stephanie Pollitt, Programme Director for Housing at BusinessLDN, said:
“Tackling the capital’s housing crisis must be a top priority for the next Mayor. London is suffering from a chronic housing shortage, with at least 66,000 new homes needed a year but delivery falling well short of this figure.
“We have long called for a new City Hall Developer to help unlock more public land for development and strengthen partnership between the public and private sectors.
“We urge all Mayoral candidates to back this proposal and other measures to boost housing supply, such as reviewing the capital’s green belt and working with central government to make public funding for affordable homes more flexible.”
